This site is my hobby. I'm a Bob Wills fan and have been since 1946 when I first heard him on the radio. I remember how hard it was to find those 78s to buy. Since I now own so many recordings by Wills, many of them unavailable elsewhere. I add pictures to the audio to make a slide show. I knew many of these early country artists because I worked in radio. My favorite music is Western Swing, from Milton Brown to George Strait. Sometimes I put things up just because...because I can. Sharing is what it's all about, but I don't get political, and I leave religion to the church of your choice. I don't want to talk about it here.
Full Film,John Wayne, BIG TRAIL 70mm wide screen 1930
Breck Coleman leads hundreds of settlers in covered wagons from the Mississippi River to their destiny out West.
John Wayne is one of the few players in film history to have failed at his first big break and then succeed on the second time around. Of course everyone knows the second time was the classic Stagecoach with John Ford directing.
But we're here to talk about The Big Trail. John Ford's fellow director Raoul Walsh spotted this tall kid on the set of one of Ford's films and thought he had potential. He wanted to make him the lead in a big budget western that Fox was planning to do. The film as planned would be an homage to the famous classic silent western The Covered Wagon.
In watching The Big Trail I was struck by how similar Wayne's character of Breck Coleman here is to the Ringo Kid in Stagecoach. Both characters were likable young cowpokes, but both were also on a mission of vengeance. And of course both films were done on location and show the expense in making them. No studio product here with a backlot western set.
I also don't think that it was an accident that Wayne got this break at the beginning of the sound era. Raoul Walsh, I'm guessing looked around Hollywood and probably didn't think a whole lot of movie cowboys would have staying power in sound. That's something else Walsh spotted in Wayne.
According to what I've read The Big Trail flopped because after spending all that money to make the film in an early wide screen process, some genius at Fox realized that their theaters weren't equipped with the wide screen to show it. And when the Great Depression hit there would be no money to widen those screens at Fox movie houses. So The Big Trail got a limited release, even in what we would call a formatted version, and lost money big for Fox films.
Marguerite Churchill is fine as the crinoline heroine who Duke wins, loses and wins again from Ian Keith. Keith, Charles Stevens and F. Tyrone Power are the trio of villains Wayne has to deal with.
F. Tyrone Power is the father of the famous movie legend Tyrone Power. He was a big burly man with a grand background in classic roles on screen and on stage. I wouldn't be surprised if his son who would have been 15 at the time might not have been hanging around the set.
Also look for Ward Bond though you might have trouble spotting him under a big bushy beard.

I used clips from the 1930 movie, Big Trail. It was John Waynes first role. It was not a hit, however, it was filmed on 70 mm and wide screen. I used the clips as a background for the Tiffany transciption. It's a fun song. It was new and Tommy break sup on the last verse.

The Civil War is over and it's been pretty costly to both sides. John Wayne has lost nearly every man who volunteered to serve with him and is broke. Rock Hudson who was also a Colonel on the other side went broke financing a regiment of his own and the Yankee carpetbaggers are ready to take over his plantation. Wayne leads the remainder of his men to capture and tame wild horses to sell. Hudso...

Hard to believe this comcert is 40 years old. All but the Oak Ridge Boys began on Sun records in the mid 1950's. Carl Perkins had the #1 hit on Pop, country, and R&B charts at the same time.

This action Western has shootouts , a love story , musical numbers (in charge of a gorgeous Abbe Lane) and is quite entertaining . A formula film featuring the standard grand opening , an enjoyable change of scenery , dramatic problem-posing center and slang-bang climax , but a nice entertaining Western nonetheless . It's a medium budget film with good actors , technicians, cheap production val...

From the Texas State Historical Association The Light Crust Doughboys, founded in 1931, have had the greatest and longest success of all the western swing bands in the Fort Worth-Dallas area. The group’s history covers more than three quarters of a century. In 1929 James Robert (Bob) Wills moved from West Texas to Fort Worth and formed the Wills Fiddle Band, a rather unimposing aggregation made...

The Great One: Jackie Gleason!
Por unas películas como las de antes >>>>>>
This is the western Ricky was referring to when he was on the Beach Nut show that night before heading out to film it.
A CLASSIC, THANK YOU
I got a goosebumps 😅❤
Never gets old 🗝️❤
I love you. I am aware of that. ❤🐬🎥🎥💯🚔🎥
I love you. I am aware of that. 💻📱🐾😇🎥🤠🛸🇺🇸 I love you George. I am aware if that. 💯🎥😇😞🤠📱🎥🎥🍿🇺🇸🤠
Just sayin! 💯😇🚔
Questa canzone mi rilassa.
Thanks for Ricky's bonus track
❤😂 still seeing my darling baby boy Dean mc clenaghan coming 4 I named him after Dean Martin the real country western, the wild west
Dale Evans plays Connie's hometown girlfriend. Jackie Gleason, plays the Bass Player, Harry Morgan, the soda jerk/Connie's and date.
Lynn Bari's singing voice was dubbed in all the films she sings in.
George Montgomery lived out here where I reside, in the lower desert of Rancho Mirage/Palm Springs. Some of his beautiful Western Sculptures are on displayed around here and in Art stores. George Montgomery reminded me of John Payne in looks, though Payne the better actor and could sing as well. See John Payne with Glenn Miller Band in the film Sun Valley Serenade. Is it me, but Ann Rutherford and George Montgomery chemistry wasn't that intense.
Still the best version of At Last. The original.
That's Betty Hutton's sister with the Glenn Miller band.
HahaHAAAAAA!!! Good ol' Maudie Frickert! 😆😅😂🤣. "Don't touch MA Body!". HAHAAA!!!
Rio Bravo. ❤
Some things are just classic❤
Glenn and his orchestra was really the birth of modern popular music with short catchy tunes that people could relate to on a personal level. Marion Hutton's sunny personality must have been such an uplift at such a difficult time. Some of the greatest music ever made and a wonderful movie to showcase it.
Es la mejor escena de esta película cantando a duo estás leyendas de la canción,Dean Martín.y Ricky Nelson ❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Miss my Dad
Ding Dong Daddy, I heard this back in Texas when I was just a kid. I loved this then and I still love it today. Age 65 going on 16. Karl
Even then, Joseph H.Lewis could make a decent film out of a lousy script!
Classic film world master class acting
Brilliant film
I sure do miss all these old Westerns that I grew up with.
This video is significantly better than other Collins Kids videos on UA-cam. Better sound and video. ‘not to knock the others; we’ll take what we get and be glad to have it. But this video clearly shows the Collins Kids defined the rock and roll genré that was developing in the early days. The kids never got their due rewards.
Actually a very sexy song, if you comprehend its spirit.
Dean Martin is the best romantic crooner.
The singer in the movie was blowing throughout the movie but especially at the funeral. The movie was playing while I was half sleep I heard that looked up and it was a barbara Stanwyck movie I had to watch it. I'm glad I came across this one because all the others blanked out on the funeral scene.
Sure makes ya stop n think, don't it!
As a programmer I like to listen to this song from time to time
💕🤠💕
In this movie the tables are turned the law is the murder and the outlaw there never was just a decent man hanged for nothing and I suppose things like that have taken place in the history of the old west!
Ironically hanging wasn't a bad way to go just disconnects the brain stem from the spinal cord
Love it. Brings back a lot of memories. Please keep it going.
Love the old music, love Mamie, love these old low budget movies. Also, at about 48:56 if you pay attention, the girl who's towel's swiped... yeah keep lookin at the girl
This is just the best music I love it thank you guys and that pretty steal play
Ive seen rio bravo over and over my fav western of all time 👍
❤
This was really good and the music was awesome. I saw someone else post a color version and it was really clear and so on... but he had some of the songs muted because he claims some copyright issues... well that's not some, since every song was here. I may sound like I'm complaining.. but visually wasn't too clear on this,, but its a movie from 1942 so anything you get out of it is a big treat. THANK YOU FOR THE THIS PIECE OF HISTORY 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Bill sounds so much like " Clark Gable"
Our Country is in Shambles.
A little off topic, but it certainly is!! You know who has to be done after nov.!
It don’t matter who is in Austin, Bob Wills is still the king!
Bob is awesome . Love Peanut to!
Always good to see " Lucky", Russell Hayden in these old Cowboy movies! 🤠
